Hanks Scholarships

For Optometry Students in Countries with Emerging Optometry Courses

Dr Anthony & Vicki Hanks Scholarships

These scholarships have been used to support exceptional optometry students to further their professional studies in countries where optometry is now a developing profession.

These scholarships were originally used in 2018 & 2019 to support outstanding students in Vietnam, where the optometry school is a joint initiative between the Brien Holden Vision Institute, the University of Medicine Pham Ngoc Thach and the Ho Chi Minh City Eye Hospital.

Then independent scholarships of USD1000 each ere available to be granted by Australian optometrist Dr Tony Hanks OAM and his wife Mrs Vicki Hanks. They were funded by all sales of shared optometry resources on this website.

Dr Tony Hanks words of encouragement from 2014 still echo his sentiment to the cause, furthering the global development of optometrists:

"To describe the students as inspiring is an understatement. We felt so proud that these enthusiastic young people will be joining our profession as colleagues. They are not only 'joining' it, but they will literally be helping to build the profession of optometry from scratch in Vietnam”.
